Frequently Asked Questions

Can I save a video from a private account?

No, and that is deliberate. The media has to be reachable without being logged in, so anything behind a protected account simply cannot be read. Beyond the technical limit: a protected account is someone stating they do not want their posts circulated. Please respect that, and respect the author's rights on public posts too — being able to download something is not the same as being free to republish it.

How do I save a video on an iPhone or iPad?

Safari handles this natively on any current iOS version:

  1. Open the post in the X app and tap the share icon, then Copy link.
  2. Switch to Safari and open this site.
  3. Paste the link into the field and tap Download Video.
  4. Pick a quality, then confirm the download when iOS prompts.
  5. The file lands in the Files app, under Downloads.

To get it into your camera roll, open it in Files, tap share, and choose Save Video.

How do I save one on Android?

The steps are much the same in Chrome, Firefox or Samsung Internet:

  1. Tap the share icon on the post and choose Copy link.
  2. Open this site in your browser and paste the link.
  3. Choose a quality and tap the download button.
  4. The file goes to your Downloads folder and appears in Gallery shortly after.

Where did the file actually go?

Wherever your browser normally puts downloads — the Downloads folder on desktop and Android, the Files app on iOS. Nothing is stored on this site, so if you cannot find it locally, checking your browser's download history is the fastest way to locate it.

Which quality should I pick?

The list shows every rendition the post actually contains, best first. The top option is whatever the author uploaded, so on some posts that is 4K and on others 720p is the ceiling — no downloader can produce detail that was never published. Pick a lower one if you are short on space or on a metered connection; the file gets considerably smaller.

It says the post does not contain a video.

That message means the post was read successfully but holds no video. Usually it is one of these:

  1. The link points to a reply or quote rather than the post holding the video.
  2. The post has only images — try the Screenshot option instead.
  3. The video was in a quoted post, which needs that post's own link.

Opening the video full-screen on X and copying the link from there gives you the right permalink.

The post could not be read at all.

Different problem: the post was never reached. That happens when it has been deleted, the account is suspended or protected, or the service that reads posts is briefly rate-limited. Waiting a minute and retrying clears the last case, which is the most common one.

Is there a limit on how many I can download?

No daily cap and no queue. Downloads run one at a time rather than in bulk, so a long list simply takes as long as it takes.

Can I get just the audio as MP3?

Not currently. Converting video to MP3 means re-encoding the audio, which the server this site runs on cannot do. The honest workaround is to save the MP4 and convert it locally — VLC and Audacity both do it free, and the result is better than a web converter would give you anyway.

The download stopped partway through.

Almost always a connection drop. Downloads support resuming, so your browser can often pick up where it left off from its download list rather than restarting. If it cannot, choosing a lower quality gives you a smaller file with less to lose.

The file will not play.

Check the size first. A file far smaller than expected was cut off mid-transfer — download it again. If the size looks right but your player refuses it, try VLC, which opens essentially anything. Files from here are standard MP4 and need no special codec.

Do I need an account?

No. No sign-up, no email, no extension required. Paste a link and you are done.
